About TEC

Mission, Vision and Goals

Mission:

The Technical Exploration Center is a community outreach program of Husson College, which provides all Maine Citizens across the lifespan with access to, knowledge of, education and services regarding Assistive Technology to enhance independence, productivity and quality of life in the communities of their choice.

 

"The Technical Exploration Center (TEC) is a place to discover, learn about, and practice using assistive technologies. We will give you the training you need to use these devices to improve your lifestyle."


Goals:

TEC will provide opportunity for all Maine Citizens to:

  • Examine technology items that may be beneficial in improving their lives.
  • Receive assessments to help make informed decisions about appropriate technology items for them.
  • Borrow relevant items for short time use.
  • Receive training in the use of assistive devices.
  • Receive assistance with acquisition of these items.
  • Participate in educational training regarding AT services.

 In addition to services offered, TEC will:

  • Perform marketing and funding activities to improve sustainability.
  • Perform data collection/research dissemination regarding the need for and benefits of AT services.
  • Provide information and referral to existing assistive technology resources to coordinate AT devices and services.

TEC is filled with a variety of devices to help with

  • Communication
  • Computers - hardware and software
  • Education
  • Enjoyment of everyday activities
  • Mobility
  • Recreation
